Data on financial assistance for postsecondary education for 2008
Trends in Student Aid presents annual data on the amount of financial assistance—grants, loans, work-study, and education tax benefits—distributed to students to help them pay for postsecondary education.
In the years since 1983, when the College Board first published Trends in Student Aid, student financing has become more complex and the line between student aid and other sources of funds has become less clear-cut. Trends in Student Aid provides detailed information about:
- The aggregate amount of student aid
- The amount of aid per student
- The composition and distribution of aid

The Trends reports
Released together with Trends in Student Aid is the companion report Trends in College Pricing, which presents data on undergraduate charges for tuition, fees, room, board, and other estimated expenses related to attending colleges and universities.
The Annual Survey of Colleges
Both Trends in College Pricing and Trends in Student Aid are based on the results of the Annual Survey of Colleges. The Annual Survey is distributed to more than 3,000 postsecondary institutions across the country, collecting a wealth of data on enrollment, admissions, degrees and majors, tuition, financial aid, and other aspects of undergraduate education.
