Capitol Hill Briefing
Announcing the release of "Young Lives on Hold"
"If this country is going to stay at the apex of the curve of intellect, which is critical for the nation’s competitive future moving forward, it’s time to stop holding down our rising stars…"
–Senator Robert Menendez
On April 21, 2009, the College Board held a briefing at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, DC, to announce its formal endorsement of the DREAM Act and the release of a new policy brief, "Young Lives on Hold: The College Dreams of Undocumented Students" (.pdf/1.7M). The panel of speakers included the report's author, policymakers, advocates and students. The audience included press, education associations, immigrant advocacy associations, and congressional staff.
As follow up to this event, College Board Advocacy will hold a series of public policy discussions in major cities across the country to increase awareness about the barriers facing undocumented students and related policy. Details will be released as they are confirmed.
