Improving the quality of writing in schools and colleges

Writing is a core skill needed for success in both college and the workplace. Colleges and universities have for some time expressed concern about the writing skills of high school graduates and similar concerns have been voiced in the secondary education community and among business leaders.

The National Commission on Writing

The National Commission on Writing was founded by the College Board in an effort to focus national attention on the teaching and learning of writing. Bob Kerrey, president of the New School, serves as chair. The Commission believes we must improve the quality of writing in our schools if students are to succeed in college and in life.

Visit the National Commission on Writing's website to learn more about current activities.
