Federal Policy
Influencing federal policy for opening access to education
The College Board focuses its federal government advocacy work on increasing student access to college and on preparing all students for college success. Below is a selection of Federal policies that are helping to ensure such access in education:
- Federal Stimulus Dollars for AP and Pre-AP—Providing input and support to schools and districts as they develop plans for AP expansion and other program implementation using stimulus dollars.
- NCLB Reauthorization—Focusing, in particular, on raising academic standards, increasing support for teachers and counselors, and improving student achievement in rigorous courses, including AP®.
- Higher Ed Reauthorization—Increasing student access to financial aid—particularly need-based aid such as Pell Grants—and making the student financial aid system more effective and efficient.
- Academic Competitiveness Grants—Providing additional student aid to students who successfully complete a rigorous program of study in high school.
