AP United States History: Overview of the Redesigned Course and Curriculum Framework
About the event
During this interactive, online workshop, teachers are introduced to the structure of the redesigned AP United States History course and exam and the ways it differs from the previous course. Teachers discuss and investigate strategies for integrating elements of the curriculum framework into their lesson plans and classroom activities. Ideas and strategies for building student proficiency in the specific historical thinking skills delineated in the framework are explored and discussed. Handouts are included.
About the content expert
Matt Ellington
Matt Ellington has been teaching AP United States History for 18 years and currently teaches at Ayala High School in Chino Hills, California, where he has served as the department chair. Matt has been an AP United States History and Pre-AP Social Studies consultant for the College Board since 2001. He currently serves on the College Board's Consultant Advisory Panel and recently edited the College Board guide aligning the new AP United States History curriculum framework with the California state content standards. Matt is also the author of the testbank for America's History, 7th Edition by James Henretta, et al., and is featured on the Bedford/St. Martin's Teaching Ideas for AP History DVD.

AP Spanish Language and Culture: Developing Instructional Units
About the event
During this interactive, online workshop, participants use the "AP World Language and Culture Themes" to design instructional units for their AP Spanish Language and Culture course. Using essential questions, which frame the unit, participants focus on the learning process and design lessons and activities which integrate the modes of communication. We also examine and discuss strategies for developing the modes of communication through the use of authentic resources. Participants discuss strategies for developing higher level thinking and questioning skills and ways to help students develop presentational speaking and writing skills. Sample activities and formative assessments are modeled and new assessment item types are evaluated. Handouts are included.

Laura Zinke
Laura Zinke has been an AP Spanish teacher for 27 years and currently teachers at McClintock high school in Tempe, AZ. Laura was a member of the AP Spanish Test Development Committee for five years and currently serves as a member of the AP Spanish Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee. She is a Question Leader at the AP Spanish Language & Culture Exam reading and has served as a Faculty Consultant since 1994. Laura is a former Fulbright Teacher exchange participant to Córdoba, Argentina and was named Arizona Language Teacher of the Year for 2009.

AP Physics: Using the Curriculum Framework for Student Success
About the event
During this interactive, online workshop, teachers build knowledge of the structure of the AP Physics Curriculum Framework and how it supports the learning objectives of the redesigned course. We investigate strategies for helping students develop proficiencies in the specific skills delineated by the framework and how to provide contexts for exploring the integrated themes. We also look at tools for assessing and improving student performance. Teachers investigate and discuss how to integrate elements of the curriculum framework into their lesson plans and classroom activities, including using essential questions, recommended contexts and skills that help lay the foundation for student success. Handouts are included.

Dolores Gende
Dolores Gende has been teaching science and math for over 29 years in a variety of countries including Mexico, Belgium and the Netherlands Antilles. She has 21 years of experience teaching college-level introductory physics and currently teaches at the Parish Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas. Dolores is the director of instructional technology and the science department chair. She also serves as an AP Physics Question Leader and as the College Board Advisor of the AP Physics 1 Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee.
