The College Board and John Cabot University invite you to learn teaching techniques and best practices while experiencing the rich history and beauty of Rome. This unique weeklong professional development event will take place at John Cabot University in the heart of the city and will be led by Bruna Petrarca Boyle, a native Italian speaker and an Italian language professor at the University of Rhode Island.
The reinstatement of AP Italian was made possible with the support of the Italian Government, the Embassy of Italy in the US, the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian - American Organizations, Italian companies in the United States and the Osservatorio della Lingua Italiana.
Scholarships Still Available
The College Board is pleased to announce that we will be offering scholarships to AP Italian teachers and to those who will be teaching AP Italian in the 2013-2014 academic year and who meet certain criteria. The scholarship will cover:
- Tuition for the AP Italian Language and Culture Summer Institute
- Accommodations in Rome for six nights
- Breakfast and lunch for five days of the workshop
- Workshop materials
- An afternoon tour of the city of Rome

Workshop Description
The workshop will give participants concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective AP Italian Language and Culture curriculum. Drawing from the curriculum framework, participants will learn how to develop activities that present language in cultural context, build students' proficiencies in the modes of communication defined in Standards for Foreign Language Learning: Preparing for the 21st Century, and integrate authentic materials into language instruction. Additionally, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the exam structure and receive practical advice on how to prepare for a course audit.

About the Instructor
Bruna Petrarca Boyle was born in Fornelli, Italy, in the region of Molise, where she completed her elementary school education. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island. She taught Italian and Spanish at Narragansett High School in Rhode Island for 31 years and was the chairperson of the Foreign Language Department. She is now a lecturer in the Italian Department at the University of Rhode Island and in Spanish at the University of Johnson and Wales in Providence, Rhode Island.
Bruna is the director of the AATI National Italian High School Contest Examination and author of the Teacher’s Guide for AP Italian. She was a member of the Task Force Committee for the AP Italian Language and Culture Course, a College Board consultant, and a moderator for the College Board AP Italian electronic discussion group. She has also written Cinque film italiani, AP Italian Track Workbooks and Mi diverto con Gianluigi.
