Curriculum Module: Science and Technology

Our world is a dynamic place, one that is rapidly changing due in part to advancements in both science and technology. These advancements are deeply connected to the needs and values of people around the world. Because good lessons must reflect the current world in order to inspire students and facilitate discussion about the world around them, it is essential that teachers incorporate themes such as science and technology into their lessons, especially in the AP world language and culture classroom. In this curriculum module, two thematic lessons focus on science and technology for the AP Japanese Language and Culture course. The lessons were developed with the backward design model and explore overarching questions such as, How do discoveries in science shape our lives?

  • Lesson 1: Food, Science and Lifestyle
  • Lesson 2: Invention and Communication
  • Summative Assessment

Note: Curriculum module materials reflect important topics in AP courses, and the materials are meant to provide teachers with resources and classroom ideas. However, curriculum module materials should not be taken as an indication that a particular topic will appear on the AP Exam.
