Presentational Communication in Pre-AP World Languages and Cultures

Learn strategies to develop students' language proficiency and cultural understanding within the Presentational Communication mode

Workshop description

This interactive workshop gives middle and high school teachers the tools to develop students' language proficiency and cultural understanding within the Presentational Communication mode. Through the implementation of concrete strategies, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the skills and knowledge students need at the Pre-AP level in the Presentational mode. Participants will examine the AP Achievement Level Descriptions and World Language Performance Levels from the Curriculum Alignment Guide and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century.

Workshop goal

  • Participants will learn strategies to develop students’ language proficiency and cultural understanding within the Presentational Communication mode.

Learning outcomes

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Implement strategies for developing students’ oral and written Presentational Communication, including: building vocabulary; scaffolding instruction; teaching cohesive devices; implementing a writing process; and developing students' self-correction techniques.
  • Incorporate the AP Achievement Level Descriptions, the World Language Performance Levels in the Curriculum Alignment Guide, and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century into classroom instruction.
  • Plan for how to transfer the strategies and knowledge from the workshop to the classroom.
