CLEP testing for military personnel and veterans
The Department of Defense will pay for active-duty service members and veterans to take CLEP exams. Every college test center can administer CLEP exams to military personnel.
Active-duty service members
CLEP exams are funded by the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) for eligible military personnel and civilian employees. Since January 2004, service members have been able take DANTES-funded CLEP exams at college test centers without paying the exam fee. Service members are still required to pay the test center registration fee to the college that provides the service.
Veterans
Veterans can claim reimbursement for CLEP exams and exam administration fees under provisions of the Veterans' Benefits Improvement Act of 2004, which enhances the education benefits of the Montgomery GI Bill. For more information about eligibility, visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website .
