On Test Day

CLEP candidate check-in procedures

Students can take CLEP exams year-round, whenever testing sessions are available at test centers. Most test centers require advance registration, although some will allow walk-ins. Learn more about registering for the test.

When a candidate arrives for testing, test administrators must complete the following registration and check-in procedure.

  1. Create a registration. The test administrator begins the process by entering the candidate's:
    • First name
    • Last name
    • Payment method
    • Test
    • Workstation number
  2. Any additional information can be filled out by the candidate once he or she is seated at a workstation.

  3. Sign in the candidate. The candidate must fill out the test center sign-in sheet.
  4. Check IDs. Students should present two forms of ID. Learn more about what students must have on exam day.
  5. Collect payment. If the student is paying by credit card, this information should be entered into the CLEP software. If he or she is paying by check or money order, payment must be collected before the exam. Learn more about payment methods.
  6. Provide scratch paper. Each student should receive scratch paper.
  7. Seat the candidate at the assigned workstation. The student will need to verify the information entered by the test administrator and provide additional information. Before the exam begins, the student will have the opportunity to read test center regulations and a confidentiality agreement, to take a brief tutorial, and to answer a series of background questions. The timed exam will then begin.
