Colleges That Require Writing

Using the SAT® writing score in the application process

The assessment of writing is not new to the college admission process. Colleges can use the SAT writing score as part of their evaluation of a student's readiness for college-level work. Numerous institutions now require an admission test with writing. Many others, while requiring a writing assessment, have begun to use writing scores from the SAT or ACT for placement and other enrollment decisions.

For additional information please visit:

  • The College Search tool to see if a particular institution requires an admission test with writing by reviewing each college's admission policies
