Test Day Mishaps
Late arrivals and missed test dates
Students who arrive to take the SAT after testing has begun will not be admitted to the test center. Students who are late or absent must reschedule if they still want to take the test.
When a student needs to reschedule
A student registered for a test who cannot attend should call Customer Service to transfer to a later test date. A change fee applies. The student needs the following information when calling:
- Registration number
- Test dates (current and later)
- Credit card number and expiration date
If a student misses a test and does not want to reschedule, the test and registration fees—including fees for services such as telephone re-registration—are nonrefundable.
If a student is absent on test day, no score reports will be sent; it is not necessary to notify us. If a student does not want to reregister for another test date and would like to request a refund for any additional score reports he ordered (QAS or SAS), advise the student to call Customer Service (this link takes you to the student area of this website).
When a test center is closed
The SAT® Program posts test center closings in the student area beginning a few days before each test date. If a makeup date or alternate test center information has been confirmed, that information will also be included. During inclement weather, students should check test center closings on Friday night and also on Saturday morning before going to the test center.
Makeup testing
If a center is unable to open on test day, a makeup test may be scheduled. Several policies apply to makeup testing.
- Only registered students can take a makeup test.
- Students cannot use a scheduled makeup test to retest or to take a different SAT Program test during the same administration.
- Students may test only at the center for which they are registered or authorized.
- Students may only take the type of test that they registered to take on the original date (SAT or SAT Subject Tests).
- Students must take the entire test at a makeup administration. They may not take specific sections of the SAT.
- Sunday testing is offered for religious observance only, not for makeup testing.
- QAS is not offered for makeup tests.
- Access to essays from makeup administrations may be delayed.
