Cancellations & Changes
Altering an SAT Subject Tests registration
Once a registration is submitted, it cannot be canceled, and the test fees are not refundable.
Correcting the registration
Students can make corrections at no charge to their contact information, score report recipients, and high school code until nine days after test day. A student must call Customer Service (this takes you to the student area of the website) to change the name under which he or she is registered. If students have questions about making corrections, direct them to the Admission Ticket/Correction Form page on the student area of the site.
Changing the test center, test date, or test type
Students can change the test center, test date, or test type up to two and a half weeks before test day. They also have the option of making changes on test day, but only if the test center has room, staff, and materials available to admit them. Additional restrictions apply in some countries and for adult test-takers.
Remind your students that there is an additional fee to change a test center, test date, or test type (plus any adjustments for the test fees). A credit card is required to make the changes by phone. Students making changes on test day will be billed for the change fee.
For most Subject Tests, students can change which Subject Tests they take on test day without charge; however, Language with Listening Tests and tests provided with accommodations cannot be changed on test day because of the special materials required.
Special circumstances for changes
- Students who have registered with a fee waiver may change to a new test date, but they will be charged the test date change fee.
- SSD students who are testing with accommodations need to make changes through their SSD Coordinators and the Services for Students with Disabilities office, due to the special materials involved. They cannot make changes to their accommodations on test day.
Requesting changes before test day
Students who know ahead of test day that they want to take the SAT instead of SAT Subject Tests, test in a different center, or cannot test on the day they registered can request changes. They should do so no later than the Wednesday that is two and one-half weeks before the test date or three weeks for international locations. Refer your students to information about making changes in the student area of this site.
Changes to the test center or test date can be made online through the student’s free account or by calling Customer Service. To change the test type, the student must contact Customer Service (this links to the student area of the site). Remind them to have the following ready when they call:
- Registration number
- Test date
- Credit card number and expiration date
Alternate day testing
A school may request alternate testing arrangements if a school-sponsored event unexpectedly conflicts with an SAT administration date. All of the following conditions must apply:
- The activity must be sponsored by the school. Events scheduled by outside clubs, recreational leagues, or organizations do not qualify.
- The scheduling conflict must be unexpected. This includes advancement in an athletic league or academic competition beyond the regular competition. Proms and other regularly scheduled events are not considered unexpected and do not qualify.
- Students must already be registered to take the test on the date in question.
- Only the school principal can request an alternate test date. The request must be submitted on school letterhead.
- Students will be charged an additional fee to change their registrations.
- For more information, see the Alternate Test Date flyer (.pdf/529K). Requires Adobe Reader (latest version recommended).
