Notes about the SAT Subject Tests

  • Students may take up to three SAT Subject Tests on a single test date.
  • Students cannot take the SAT Subject Tests and the SAT during the same test administration.
  • Students must indicate which SAT Subject Tests they plan to take when they register for a test. However, they may change which tests they take on the day of the test—except for Language with Listening Tests. This applies to center testing only (not school-based testing, which involves student-specific materials that may not be available).
  • Only one Biology test can be taken per test date. After the first 60 questions, students must choose either Biology – Ecological or Biology – Molecular; they cannot take both.
  • Calculators may be used only on the Mathematics Level 1 and Level 2 SAT Subject Tests. Students may not use calculators for other SAT Subject Tests and must put them away when not taking a mathematics test.
  • The Language with Listening Tests are always given in the first hour of testing. Only one listening test can be taken per test date.
  • The SAT Subject Tests offered on each test date are subject to change.

Changes to Testing Calendar in Some Countries

International test date availability may vary. We recommend educators visit sat.org/international for the most up-to-date information.

Important information for international registration deadlines

  • International deadlines apply to anyone testing outside of the United States and U.S. territories.
  • International registration materials must be received by the international deadlines. Deadlines expire at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, U.S.A.
  • There is no late registration for international testing. Online and telephone re-registrations must be completed by the international deadline dates listed above.
  • Students registering through International Representatives must submit their paper registration with full payment in time to arrive by the early registration deadline.
  • Sunday administrations usually occur the day after each Saturday test date, for students who cannot test on Saturday due to religious observance. This year, the October Sunday test date has been shifted one week later, to Oct. 11, to avoid conflict with a religious holiday.
  • The Language with Listening Tests are offered only in November.
  • There are specific deadlines for making changes if students are testing outside the US. The deadline for making changes is also noted on the Admission Ticket. International students should call Customer Service by the international change deadline to make changes to their registration including adding a Language with Listening Test or selecting a different Language with Listening Test.

Be sure your students are aware of restrictions that may apply to them.
